Abstract
Welding is a metallurgical bond in a metal or alloy joint that is carried out in a molten or molten state. Based on this definition, it can be further explained that welding is a local connection of several metal rods using heat energy. According to AWS (American Welding Society), the meaning of the welding process is the process of joining metal or non-metal which produces one united part by heating the material to be used to a certain heating temperature with pressing or not pressing and with a metal or non-metal filler. The method to be used in this study is welding using SMAW by varying large Current Strength and Cooling Media using ASTM A36 steel, Large Current Strength to be varied i.e. 85A, 95A, 105A and Cooling Media to be used i.e. Water, Oil, Solar with electrode E 7018 first sample data collection, where the data collected or studied are used as a guide in the study. Secondly, the state method in which the selected seal will be analyzed for its characteristics, then the welding results are tested for tensile strength, and micro-stucture. And the third is the evaluation method, in which the data obtained are evaluated in order to obtain the maximum result. The results obtained for ASTM A36 steel Tensile testing have the highest strength values that are in the variation Strong Current 105A with Water Cooling Medium with an average maximum voltage value of 52.31 kg/mm2 and for the lowest voltage value that is in the variation Strong Current 85A with Solar Cooling Media with an average maximum voltage value of 42,18 kg/mm2. Likewise with microstructure testing, the value of the result of the calculation of the grain size in the weld area of metal with a grain size number value of at most 11.2 with a large grain diameter of 0.0112 mm is at Current Strength 85A with Solar Cooling Medium and we also obtain the result that the smallest Grain size number 6.7 with a grain diameter of 0.0067 mm is at Strong Current 105A with Water Cooling Medium. This means that the enlarged grain results in a decrease in the strength value of the material
