Abstract
Working students face two burdens at once, namely from the academic load and the demands and pressures of their work environment. Students who are experiencing work stress tend to look for fun activities and postpone their academic work or do academic procrastination. This study aims to examine the relationship between job stress and academic procrastination in working students. This study used a correlational quantitative method. The population used was working students from three selected faculties at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya. Participants in this study amounted to 167 student workers obtained by random sampling technique. The data collection technique used measuring instruments in the form of an academic procrastination scale (TPS) and a work stress scale (NJSS), which were measured using 5 Likert scales. The data analysis techniques used in this study are Pearson Correlation Product Moment. Based on the results of data analysis, the resulting correlation coefficient shows rxy = 0.430 with p = 0.000 <0.01, thus indicating a highly significant positive correlation between work stress and academic procrastination. Based on the calculation of categorization on both variables, it shows that the subjects or student workers studied in this study have the same status of work stress and academic procrastination, namely in the moderate category. This shows that the hypothesis proposed by the researcher in this study is accepted. In addition, the results of the data analysis also show the coefficient of determination (r2 ) of 0.184. This shows that the work stress variable provides an effective contribution or impact of 18.4% on the academic procrastination variable in student workers at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya.
