Abstract

Welding is a metal joining technique by melting some of the base metal and filler metal with or without pressure and with or without additional metal and produces a continuous connection. This study aims to 1. Analyze the effect of variations in current and seam shape of SMAW welding on the impact strength of ST 37 steel 2. Analyze the effect of variations in current and seam shape of SMAW welding on the hardness of ST 37 steel. The material to be tested in this study uses ST 37 material with the ASTM E23 testing standard. The welding process uses SMAW (Shield Metal Arc Welding) welding with E6013 electrodes Using a 1G welding position. In this study using current variations of 60A, 80A, 100A and seam variations of V60° and X60°. Furthermore, the brinell hardness test and the charpy method impact test were carried out. The research results obtained after the Brinell and Impact testing of the Charpy method on seams V and X with current variations of 60A, 80A, 100A, that is, if the welding current used is greater, the RHB and HI values will increase, meaning that the strength value is getting better. The highest average RHB value is 83,9 kgf at 100A seam V and the lowest RHB value is 69 kgf at 60A seam V. The highest HI value is 1.015 J/mm2 at 100A seam X and HI value lowest 0.873 J/mm2 at 60A peak V current.
