Abstract
Settlements in the dupak sub-district is one of the priority areas III for arrangement and improvement of the quality of housing and settlements in surabaya. This area has high building density with low environmental quality. This requires an integrated strategy to improve settlement quality. The concept of a vertical village can optimize high space requirements because it can make optimal use of space (Prihatmaji and Agumsari, 2016). Settlement arrangement, steps are needed to maintain the village character which is local wisdom. Urban village life has the character of population density and social ties from heterogeneous communities. A vertical village is a village in general that is built vertically to overcome the issue of limited land and the issue of slum settlements (Yu Sing, 2011). The vertical village is the essence of the flat building. Kampung Susun Grapyak Srawung is an alternative concept in Settlement arrangement. Before that, the interpretation of the concept could be by explaining village conditions. Villages generally have a variety of shapes, colors and sizes. Beside that, strong social aspects in a heterogeneous society is characteristics of life that need attention. Kampung Susun can optimize high space requirements. While, the concept of grapyak srawung tries to maintain the characteristics of harmonious village life. So kampung susun grapyak srawung means a concept that presents the kampong ecosystem vertically, without eliminating the characteristics of urban village.
