Abstract

Low carbon steel is included in ST 42 steel because it has a level of carbon below it 25%, so it has properties and also has weak strength compared to medium carbon steel and high carbon steel. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct need to do more research ST 42 steel material. This research method uses an experimental approach, utilizing seawater immersion corrosion media, rainwater and 32% HCL solution, and heat treatment variations consisting of hardening with 850°C holding period 15 minutes refrigerated using H2O, normalizing with 850°C holding period 15 minutes refrigerated using air. After getting the results then calculated Using a reduced weight approach, accelerated corrosion rate (mpy) from this research it can be seen that hardening heat treatment with rainwater immersion corrosion media is the best on ST 42 steel material.
