Abstract

Teknologi pengelasan merupakan bagian integral dari teknologi manufaktur. Dalam pekerjaan pengelasan harus diperhatikan kesesuaian struktur pengelasan untuk mencapai hasil yang terbaik. Untuk melakukan hal tersebut, pengelasan perlu memperhatikan beberapa hal penting, antara lain efisiensi pengelasan, penghematan energi, dan tentunya biaya rendah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh hasil pengelasan metal Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) menggunakan variasi elektroda dan posisi pengelasan terhadap kuat tarik baja ST37. Pengujian hasil pengelasan yang digunakan adalah dengan metode Destructive Test yaitu berupa uji tarik (Tensile Test). Dan juga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memenuhi tugas akhir sebagai syarat kelulusan. Proses pengelasan ini dilakukan menggunakan arus las 70A dan 80A. Proses ini berguna untuk mengetahui seberapa kekuatan dari arus las yang sudah digunakan oleh baja ST37 tanpa mengubah komposisi kimia secara menyeluruh. Metode yang dipilih dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen, dengan metode eksperimental, maka peneliti akan melakukan kontrol alias kendali yang bertujuan untuk menyelidiki kemungkinan sebab akibat, dan juga menentukan variasi serta metode yang akan digunakan. Dari hasil uji tarik diperoleh nilai ketangguhan rata-rata tertinggi sebesar 49,516 N/mm2 dengan arus las 80A dengan posisi pengelasan horizontal. Sedangkan perpanjangan benda uji yang paling bertambah panjang berada di pengelasan 70A dengan posisi pengelasan horizontal yaitu 14,49. Sesuai hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa posisi pengelasan SMAW yang terbaik adalah horizontal.
