Abstract

Fashion Thrift, the practice of buying used clothes for less than new clothes, has become an increasingly popular trend in recent years. This is due to the increasing cost of new clothing and increasing concern about the environmental impact of the production of new items. The social identity of adolescents, as individuals who are in transition to adulthood, is important in the context of the JatimThrift community. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach based on James Spradley's theory, which is known as ethnographic qualitative research. This approach allows researchers to study individuals or groups with the aim of describing cultural characteristics in more depth, taking into account their social context, space and time. In discussing identity, it is important to understand that identity does not only affect us as individuals, but also as members of society and culture in our social roles. The social identity of teenagers in the JatimThrift community is reflected in the Fashion Thrift practices they choose. Through the used clothes they buy, these teenagers actively create and construct their identity. The social construction of adolescent identity in the JatimThrift community can be understood through their interactions with fellow community members, their perceptions of used clothing, and the values they place on Fashion Thrift practices. This identity not only influences how adolescents see themselves, but also how they interact with society at large. Through this research, it is hoped that it can be understood how teenagers in the JatimThrift community construct their social identity through the practice of Fashion Thrift. This research can also provide insight into the role of identity construction in shaping social relations and adolescent attachment to their community.
