Abstract

Film is a form of audio-visual communication media in which there is a relationship between film authors and moviegoers. One of the Indonesian films that raises social issues is a film entitled Yuni. This study aims to analyze the representation of women depicted in Yuni's film in depicting patriarchal culture. This research was conducted using semiotics which is included in a qualitative study. The results of this study indicate that in Yuni's film there are scenes that display patriarchal culture, especially in the Indonesian region. This film reproduces the idea of patriarchal culture which constructs a film whose story structure places women in a subordinated position. In this context, the mass media places women as marginal parties whose interests are under the control of men which is marked by the actions of women who cannot live without men. Where this pattern of behavior brings women confined within the scope of femininity which is characterized by passivity and powerlessness of women. The representation of women in a patriarchal culture in the film "YUNI" is filled with issues of women who are often considered to be a weak minority resulting in restrictions on women's movements such as women who do not need higher education, women are seen as unable to become leaders because of complex, women always synonymous with the kitchen world, women are forced to marry at an early age, and women are objects of male sexuality.
