Abstract

The development of increasingly advanced technology has made it easier for everyone to be able to communicate without having to meet face to face. One that is experiencing progress is online games such as Dota 2, in the Dota 2 online game there are chat box, microphone, and chat wheels communication features where these features are very useful for players but even though they can be useful these features can be misused to say things bad things to opponents and playmates, one example of negative action that arises from the misuse of communication features in the Dota 2 online game is Trash talking. Trash talking is a form of verbal communication that attempts to bully, boast, insult, brag, provoke, intimidate, or lower the mindset of opponents or friends. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The purpose of this research is to describe how the communication behavior of trash talking Dota 2 players. In this study used interview techniques, observation, and documentation in collecting data. The research subjects were members of the kolam Dota 2 Indonesia v2 community. Data analysis uses techniques from Miles and Hubberman. Data Validity Technique using source triangulation technique. The results of the study show that the trash talking that appears in the Dota 2 game uses harsh English words and sentences such as fuck, damn, shit, and stupid. The motivation for trash talking is because they want to express their emotions because of the actions of their friends and also because they are provoked by their opponents.
