Abstract

Humans communicate in various ways, not having to meet in person but also by internet-based media such as chatting. There are chat applications that are a medium for humans to interact, one of which is the matchmaking application. Dating apps like Bumble, bring together two individuals who like each other. Two users who initially don't know each other become acquainted and have a much closer relationship such as friendship or romance. When there is a match between users, there will be an exchange of personal information, this is called self-disclosure. Researchers want to understand the self-disclosure carried out by users of the Bumble dating application to their match partners when chatting. This study uses a virtual ethnographic method, researchers will look at the user's self-disclosure in depth in a virtual environment. Based on online interviews and data collected, selfdisclosure is influenced by the five dimensions of self-disclosure, so that each person's self-disclosure varies depending on the level of relationship that is built. Through the process of self-disclosure, social penetration theory looks at how the development of relationships created by individuals is whether they are becoming more intimate (penetration) or are they withdrawing (depenetration).
