Abstract
Corrosion is the result of unwanted chemical interactions between surfaces and their environment. Sandblasting is one of the fastest and most efficient methods of removing rust and corrosion. Sandblasting is a surface cleaning method that uses high pressure to shoot abrasive particles at the surface of a material to cause impact, removing contaminants such as salt, oil, corrosion and rust and creating a roughness profile. The low carbon steel used in this study is ST 37 which has dimensions of 50 mm x 50 mm x 4 mm, time variations of 8 seconds, 10 seconds and 15 seconds, and pressure variations of 5 bar, 6 bar and 7 bar, respectively. respectively. Thickness and hardness roughness tests on ST 37 low carbon steel plates yield comparable values for each pressure and time variation of the sandblasting results. This study found that a pressure variation of 5 bar for 8 seconds with a value of 70 μm produced the lowest roughness. While the pressure variation of 7 bar for 15 seconds with a value of 93 μm has the highest roughness. With an interval of 8 seconds, 10 seconds, and 15 seconds, the sandblasting process produces a cleanliness of Sa 2½. In the sandblasting process, the thickness value decreased at 7 bar 15 seconds with a value of 3.76 mm. Whereas at the pressure variation of 5 bar 8 seconds, a thickness value of 3.89 mm was obtained, which was initially before the sandblasting process, the thickness value of the raw material was 3.986 mm. In the sandblasting process, the hardness value increased from 62.3 HRB to 77.053 HRB with a variation of 7 bar 15 seconds. Meanwhile, the low hardness occurs at a variation of 5 bar 8 seconds, namely 69.26 HRB. Keywords: roughness, hardness, thickness, sandblasting, pressure, time
