Abstract

Fear of failure is an individual's feeling of anxiety about a situation that can allow failure and becomes an impetus to avoid the negative consequences of failure. The high number of job seekers makes many students experience the fear of failure in terms of getting a job. This study aims to determine the differences in the fear of failure to get a job in students in terms of university origin, GPA, and organizational activity. Respondents in this study were active undergraduate students of Psychology from the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya as many as 103 people and from the State University of Surabaya as many as 54 people. The sampling technique in this study used the accidental sampling technique. Collecting data in this study using a fear of failure scale and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney Test. The results of this study indicate that: (1) There is a significant difference in fear of failure to get a job between students from public universities and private universities, where Z score = -2,827 with a significance of 0.005 (p < 0.05), students from state universities have a greater fear of failure to get a job than students from private universities (mean rank: 93,17 > 71,57); (2) There is no significant difference in fear of failure to get a job between students with GPA above 3.50 and below 3.50, where Z score = -1,511 with a significance of 0,131 (p > 0.05); (3) There is no significant difference in fear of failure to get a job between students who are active in organizations and not actively in organizations, where the score Z = -0,510 with a significance of 0,610 (p > 0.05).
