Abstract
Based on the literature study, there are factors that influence public speaking anxiety, especially self-efficacy. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and public speaking anxiety in students. This study uses a correlational quantitative research design. The population in this study were students of the University of 17 August 1945, Surabaya, amounting to 10,625 with a sample of 96 students. Sample selection using simple random sampling technique. The data collection tool used a self-efficacy scale and a public speaking anxiety scale. Based on the results of simple linear regression analysis, there is a negative relationship between self-efficacy and public speaking anxiety in students. The results of the hypothesis test show that the significance value is 0.001 which means it is smaller than the probability of 0.05, and the t-value - 3.469 is greater than the t-table value of 1.290, then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that there is a negative relationship between self-efficacy and speaking anxiety. in public. The resulting R Square value is 0.114, which means that the effect of self- efficacy on public speaking anxiety is 11.4%. While the remaining 88.6% was influenced by other factors not explained in this study. Anxiety in public speaking at the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya students with a low classification as many as 9 students or 9.4%, a moderate classification as many as 68 students or 70.8%, and in a high classification as many as 19 students or 19.8%. So it can be concluded that the higher the self-efficacy, the lower the anxiety in public speaking. The lower the self-efficacy, the higher the anxiety of publicspeaking.
