Abstract

Consumptive behavior is an individual’s negative behavior in shopping without limits and without rational consideration, and buying goods that are actually out of necessity in excess to fulfill the desires and get satisfaction only than the actual needs. One of factors that can influence consumptive behavior is self control. This study aims to determine the correlation between self-control and consumptive behavior in K-pop merchandise purchases in adolescents. The method used is a quantitative approach. Research subjects were 100 teenagers taken by purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using a scale of consumptive behavior and self-control scale. The analytical method used is Pearson product moment correlation technique. The results of data analysis showed the magnitude of the correlation coefficient between self-control variables and consumptive behavior is -0.455 and p=0.000 (p<0.01). These results indicate that there is a negative relationship between self-control and consumptive behavior in K-pop merchandise purchases in adolescents. With a percentage of 20.7% in self-control and 79.3% influenced by other variables.
