Abstract

This study aims to determine the tendency of assertive behavior in late adolescents in Surabaya. Assertive behavior is the ability to express opinions, feelings, rights and needs without offending or hurting the feelings of others, including by giving and receiving affection, giving praise, being able to give and receive criticism, giving or refusing requests, the ability to discuss problems, argue, and organize. This study was conducted to determine whether there is a relationship between Self Esteem and assertive behavior in late adolescents in Surabaya. The research design used by the researcher is a quantitative study with 71 respondents involved in the 1st & 2nd semester students. The data analysis in this study used Pearson correlation with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 25 and the result was 0.357 with a significance of p = 0.001. That is, there is a positive correlation or relationship between the self-esteem variable and assertive behavior. The higher the self-esteem in late adolescence, the higher the assertive behavior. And vice versa, the lower self-esteem in late teens, the lower the assertive behavior. Keywords: Assertive Behavior, Late Adolescence, Self Esteem
