Abstract

Joining different materials is difficult and requires the use of filler metal. Welding with the friction welding method is an alternative for joining different materials with cylindrical dimensions. Parameters that affect the strength of the connection are the cross-sectional area of the test object, rotation speed, friction time, and the applied compressive force. This study was conducted to determine the tensile strength, and buckling strength of the welded joint, as well as to determine the microstructure changes that occur in ST 37 and ST 42 steel materials that occur due to friction in the rotary friction welding process using the rotation speed parameters 1500, 1000, and 880 rpm, diameter 10 mm, friction time varies from 20 to 30 (seconds). as well as the results of micro-structural testing, embrittlement occurs in the weld joint area
