Abstract

The study is about an analysis of Lenny Samuel’s personality which influence his investigation in Philip Prowse’s The Woman Who Disappeared. The thesis aims to find out Lenny’s personality and how it can influence the investigation toward his client. The writer uses qualitative research due to the fact that it provides understanding into the problem and helps to derive meanings from the investigation in the novel. In the research, the analysis is conducted by using psychological approach. Through the novel, the writer finds that Lenny Samuel is a private detective who is gets a job from Helen Garfield. The job is to find her sister who had disappeared a week before she made a report to Lenny. Her sister name is Elaine Garfield and they are twin. Helen asks Lenny to find her sister because she does not want any trouble with the police. After doing the analysis, the writer finds that the personality of Lenny Samuel is coming from his social condition. It is appear on his investigation. The result of the analysis shows that Lenny Samuel’s personality can be defined into kind of the influence of Lenny Samuel’s personality on his investigation. The kinds of influence of Lenny Samuel’s personality includes humor, optimistic, a worker, enthusiastic, friendly, creative, adventurous, undisciplin, talkative, story tellers, forgetful, restless and apologetic.
