Abstract

Translation is the process of transferring information from a source language to a target language. Translation is one of important aspect in learning a foreign language such as English because many people are still unable to read by themselves the purpose or messages that are stated in the source language. The focus of the present study is the Indonesian translation of English coordinative conjunctions and their combination in Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga. Coordinative conjunctions in English join words that are equally important in a sentence. The topic of the translation of English coordinative conjunction is chosen to investigate deeper about English coordinative conjunctions and compares with Indonesian translation well. The data is taken from the English and Indonesian versions of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga. The problem to be answered is as follows: What are the translations of English single coordinative conjunctions into Indonesian used in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga? This thesis uses a qualitative research, in that the data of the research contains the quotation from the data of coordinative conjunction and it means that the data of the research contains the quotation from the novel to illustrate and sustain the presentation. All the data are classified, observed, analyzed, and evaluated. The writer analyzes 50 data of single coordinative conjunctions. Based on the study, and, then, as, than, with, for, without, like, too, since, so, about, however, only, or are found. The single coordinative conjunction that is mostly used in the sentences is conjunction and, and usually is translated into Indonesia dan. They are 25 data. The writer also found that the translation of English into Indonesian is done by the techniques of translation so that the novel can be understood better in Indonesian.
