Abstract

This study discusses about Lennie, Candy, Curley‟s wife and Crooks in John Steinbeck‟s Of Mice and Men who feel lonely which makes them feel the effect of their loneliness. They also try to find the way to overcome their loneliness. The study aims to answer how the loneliness is revealed in John Steinbeck‟s Of Mice and Men. In analyzing the problem, the thesis writer adopts theory from some resources and uses descriptive qualitative. This study also applies extrinsic approach. From this analysis, it can be concluded that loneliness happens because of some different reasons; Lennie who lives without parents, Candy loses his dog, Curley‟s wife is ignored by her husband and Crooks who feels lonely because of his black skin. Some of them try to find a way to overcome their loneliness like Lennie and Candy imagines that they will have their own farm, Crooks looks for someone to talk to and Curley‟s wife flirts with the other men to get attention. They also feel the effect of their loneliness like Crooks who keep afraid from the other people because of he is afraid that the other people just want to underestimate him
