Abstract
The development in Sidoarjo Regency has continued to grow after the Lapindo mud disaster, which triggered significant changes in land use patterns across several areas. In the case of Sidoarjo Regency, modeling can be applied to identify land cover changes according to influencing variables. These conditions often lead to problems such as land subsidence, pavement cracking, and structural failure. Therefore, an effective and environmentally friendly soil stabilization method is required. One alternative is the utilization of wood ash (ASK) as an additive combined with Bacillus Subtili, which also supports the reduction of industrial wood waste. This study was conducted on clay soil samples from Ploso Village, Wonoayu District, Sidoarjo Regency. The mixture variations used were 5%, 10%, and 15% ASK by dry soil weight, along with the addition of 5% Bacillus Subtilis and a curing period of 7 days. Laboratory tests included water content, Atterberg limits, Proctor compaction, and Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS). The unconfined compressive strength increased from 0.29981 kg/cm² in the natural soil to 0.47719 kg/cm² in the 10% ASK mixture. Stabilization of soft clay soil using a mixture of 15% wood ash and 5% Bacillus Subtilis resulted in a maximum dry density of 2.047 g/cm³ and an unconfined compressive strength of 0.66386 kg/cm². Thus, the mixture of 15% ASK and 5% Bacillus Subtilis can be recommended as an effective method for clay soil stabilization.
