Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine prenatal anxiety among pregnant women in Kelurahan DS and to implement a psychoeducational intervention using relaxation and positive affirmation techniques to reduce anxiety and enhance emotional coping. This community-based psychological service aimed to identify psychological issues related to pregnancy and to strengthen mothers’ awareness and self-regulation through preventive mental health education at the primary care level. Materials and Methods. The study adopted a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach through interviews, observations, and psychological screening using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Participants consisted of fifteen pregnant women aged 19–37 years in different trimesters. The intervention included psychoeducation sessions focusing on anxiety awareness, emotion regulation, and relaxation practices such as deep breathing and the butterfly hug technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests to evaluate intervention effectiveness. Results. Findings indicated that participants experienced various levels of prenatal anxiety, from mild to severe, primarily due to fear of childbirth, physical changes, and lack of emotional support. After the psychoeducational intervention, there was a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and coping ability, as well as a reduction in anxiety scores from pre-test (M = 26.80, SD = 5.24) to post-test (M = 20.27, SD = 3.88), t = 9.207, p = 0.000. Conclusions. Psychoeducational interventions emphasizing relaxation and positive affirmations effectively reduced prenatal anxiety and improved maternal mental health. Strengthening partner involvement, empowering community health cadres, and integrating psychological education into maternal programs are recommended for sustainable community mental health
