Abstract

University students are in a vulnerable developmental phase and often face various academic, social, and emotional pressures that may trigger aggressive behavior. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-control and peer social support with aggressive behavior among university students. The research employed a quantitative method with 117 active students in the city of Surabaya selected using accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using the non-parametric Spearman’s Rho test with the assistance of SPSS 23 for Windows. The results indicated that self-control had a significant negative relationship with aggressive behavior (rxy = −0.831, p= 0.000 < 0.05), meaning that higher self-control is associated with lower levels of aggressive behavior. Peer social support also showed a significant negative relationship with aggressive behavior (rxy = −0.715, p= 0.003 < 0.05), indicating that higher peer social support is associated with lower levels of aggressive behavior. It can be concluded that self-control and peer social support are important factors influencing aggressive behavior among university students, independently.
