Abstract

Drug addiction is a significant issue and negatively impacts health and social life. This study examines the therapeutic communication narratives used by counselors for drug addicts at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in East Java Province. This study employed descriptive qualitative research, employing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results indicate that the therapeutic communication narratives developed by counselors are designed to promote recovery for drug addicts through counseling stages. These stages include exploring feelings during pre-interaction, self-acceptance, and providing reinforcement and affirmation during the work phase, as well as communicating risks and impacts during the termination phase. Counselors use their narratives in counseling, which play a role in building awareness, strengthening self-control, and changing the behavior of drug addicts during recovery. Therapeutic communication narratives play a crucial role in supporting the rehabilitation process for drug addicts at the BNN in East Java Province. This study also provides theoretical and practical contributions to improving the quality of drug addict rehabilitation services through professional and humanistic therapeutic communication
