Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between cyberchondria and neuroticism in early adult internet users. Cyberchondria is a condition in which individuals excessively search for health information on the internet, causing anxiety, while neuroticism is one of the Big Five personality dimensions characterized by a tendency to experience negative emotions such as anxiety, fear, and easy stress. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. Participants totaled 351 early adults (18-40 years old) who were selected using purposive sampling technique. The results of data analysis using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Test show that there is a significant positive relationship between cyberchondria and neuroticism (r = 0.220; p = 0.000 <0.05), which means that the higher a person's level of neuroticism, the higher the tendency of cyberchondria they have. These results indicate the importance of paying attention to personality aspects in understanding excessive health information seeking behavior on the internet.
