Abstract

The rising global temperatures due to climate change are increasingly pressing the need for efficient and environmentally friendly cooling solutions. The demand for cooling is also increasing with the rise of urbanization and changes in lifestyle. AC (Air conditioner) is used to regulate humidity, heating, and provide comfortable air cooling indoors. Indonesia, as a tropical climate country, greatly requires air conditioning (AC) for the general needs of society, both in the industrial world, transportation, buildings, housing, commercial, health, offices, as well as households in residential and office settings.In this study, a split AC R-32 cooling machine will be designed by examining the variations of the expansion valve and the condenser fan speed on the performance characteristics of the cooling machine, aiming to find the best results. The methods used include the construction of a testing device for the split AC R-32 cooling machine, data collection, and analysis. The split AC is arranged on a frame with the indoor unit located above and the outdoor unit below, with an additional fan speed controller set to 4.8, 5.5, and 6.2 m/s. A pressure gauge, digital thermometer, and variations of capillary tube expansion valves with lengths of 0.5m, 1m, and 1.5m are included, along with a TXV located between the indoor and outdoor units.Based on the research results, there is a trend of increasing Coefficient of Performance (COP) values in systems with either a Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) or capillary tube expansion device as the condenser fan speed increases. The highest COP value is found in the capillary tube expansion valve with a length of 0.5m, which is 8.26 at a fan speed of 6.2m/s, while the lowest value is found in the capillary tube expansion valve with a length of 1.5m, which is 2.95 at a fan speed of 4.8m/s.
