Abstract

Baja merupakan material paling banyak digunakan dalam dunia industrikarena sifatnya yang mudah dibentuk dan ketersediannya yang sangat melimpah. Baja karbon menengah tipe EMS 45 umunya dimanfaatkan pada bagian mesin yang membutuhkan ketahanan terhadap aus dan kekuatan tinggi. Untuk meningkatkan sifat permukaan dilakukan melalui proses pack carburizing dengan media arang tempurung kelapa dan penambahan serbuk cangkang telur sebagai bahan energizer. Penelitian ini mengevaluasi perubahan struktur mikro dan nilai kekerasan akibat dari hasil variasi suhu (870 0C, 900 0C, dan 950 0C) dan variasi waktu tahan tiap suhu (40,60, dan 90 menit). Sempel diuji mengunakan metode quenching dengan media oli untuk mengetahui hasil perlakuan tersebut terhadap baja EMS 45. Berdasarkan hasil uji, nilai kekerasan tertinggi mencapai 60 HRC pada suhu 950 0C dengan waktu tahan 90 menit. Struktur mikro menunjukan terbentuknya fasa martensit, ferrite, dan pearlite dengan variasi yang bergantung pada parameter yang digunakan dalam penelitian. Laju keausan juga teramati menurun seiring peningkatan suhu dan lamanya waktu penahanan, yang mengindikasikan peningkatan kualitas permukaan baja tersebut.
