Abstract

PT. XYZ is a manufacturing company headquartered in Surabaya that produces plastic-based products, primarily water storage tanks. Delivering affordable, highquality products is its core mission for remaining competitive in the market. The company’s raw-material inventory sometimes faces both overstock and stock-out situations: the first- and second-layer plastic pellets the main raw materials for the tanks have experienced stock-outs, while the third-layer pellets have accumulated excess stock in certain months. To resolve these problems, a Continuous Review System (CRS) was applied to optimise raw-material inventory so that stock-outs can be avoided and product demand can be met in real time. Using CRS, the optimal purchase quantities were calculated as 7,002 kg for layer 1, 6,398 kg for layer 2, and 5,453 kg for layer 3, producing a total inventory cost of IDR 25,266,957 compared with the company’s previous cost of IDR 29,997,842. Hence, CRS lowers inventory expenses by about IDR 4,731,000. The method integrates safety stock and reorder-point calculations to prevent stock-outs and employs Monte Carlo simulation for sensitivity analysis, helping the company understand how changes in key parameters could influence the final results.
