Abstract

Tendency is desire or reactive readiness that is focused on concrete objects, and always appears repeatedly in a person (Kartini Kartono., 1996). Social media addiction is a condition where individuals are unable to control intensive and excessive use of social media, which can trigger psychological and social disorders (Kootesh et al., 2016). The use of social media can make teenagers care less about their education, which results in delays in completing school assignments, reduced study time, and a significant decrease in academic achievement at school (Mim et al., 2018). Social media addiction behavior can also be caused by an individual's ability to control themselves. Social media addiction can be influenced by several factors, one of which is self-control (Muna & Astuti, 2014). Fear of missing out is another factor that influences social media addiction (Fathadika & Afriani, 2018). Every individual who experiences fear of missing out can allow himself to be tied to social media, because the characteristics of individuals who experience fear of missing out can allow him to be tied to social media (Przybylksi., at al, 2013). This research design uses a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression. The sample consisted of 92 students from the Faculty of Psychology, University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya. The regression results show that the hypothesis is accepted, namely that there is a relationship between self-control and fear of missing out with the tendency to become addicted to social media in adolescents.
