Abstract

This study aims to examine how followers of the TikTok account @tasyafarasya interpret the product review content of Skintific presented by beauty influencer Tasya Farasya. The research adopts Stuart Hall’s reception theory, which categorizes audience interpretations into three decoding positions: Dominant Hegemonic Position, where the audience fully accepts the intended message: Negotiated Position, where the audience partially agrees but adapts the message based on personal context and experience, and Oppositional Position, where the audience completely rejects the message. This study employs a qualitative method using both primary and secondary data sources. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and literature review. The data analysis process includes data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The findings show that audiences interpret the review content of Skintific products by Tasya Farasya in varied ways. Out of five informants, one was identified in the dominant hegemonic position, while four informants fell into the negotiated position. None of the participants fully rejected the message, indicating the absence of an oppositional position. These differences are influenced by individual experiences with the product, skin conditions, and personal expectations. The results support Stuart Hall’s theory, highlighting that audiences are active and selective in constructing meaning from media messages.
