Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of exposure to motorcycle theft news content on Instagram social media on the anxiety of @radarsurabaya account followers. The focus of this research is on how exposure to criminal news, particularly motorcycle theft, triggers a psychological response in the form of anxiety among the followers of the news account. This study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. Data was obtained through primary sources in the form of online questionnaires distributed to 100 active @radarsurabaya followers who were exposed to motorcycle theft news content, as well as secondary sources in the form of literature reviews and documentation. Data collection techniques were carried out through surveys with questionnaires, and data analysis used SPSS software. Instrument testing included validity and reliability tests, while data analysis involved classical assumption tests (normality, heteroscedasticity, linearity), simple linear regression analysis, Pearson correlation test, T-test (partial), and coefficient of determination (R²). The research findings indicate that exposure to motorcycle theft news content on Instagram has a significant and strong effect on the anxiety of @radarsurabaya followers (t-count = 9.168, p < 0.05; R² = 0.523). This means that 52.3% of the anxiety can be explained by news exposure, supporting the Stimulus-Response Theory that exposure to criminal media triggers anxiety.
