Abstract

Regional economic development plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable national economic growth. In the era of regional autonomy, local governments are expected to identify and develop leading sectors with high competitiveness to improve community welfare. This thesis aims to identify the basic and competitive sectors in Sidoarjo Regency during the 2020-2024 period using the Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift Share (SS) approaches. The data used are based on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current market prices by industry. The analysis results show that the manufacturing industry consistently contributes the most to the GRDP of Sidoarjo Regency and demonstrates significant competitive advantages compared to the provincial average. In addition, the trade and transportation sectors also exhibit promising growth. Through these approaches, more targeted strategies for economic development based on leading sectors can be formulated. Therefore, it is expected that local governments can design more focused and effective development policies to enhance regional economic growth and competitiveness in a sustainable manner.
