Abstract

Loneliness in new overseas students is influenced by parental attachment and self-esteem. This study describes the results of the relationship between parental attachment and self-esteem with loneliness in new overseas students. This study uses a quantitative approach and is conducted using a survey method that uses 3 psychological scales of measuring instruments, namely the Loneliness scale (a = 0.948); Parental Attachment scale (a = 0.927); SelfEsteem scale (a = 0.953). The subjects of this study amounted to 233 new overseas students in Surabaya City taken with purposive sampling technique. The results showed that simultaneously there was a significant influence between parental attachment and self-esteem with loneliness. Partially, the results of this study indicate that there is a significant negative relationship between parental attachment and loneliness. While the self-esteem variable has a significant negative relationship with loneliness.
