Abstract

Korosi merupakan faktor krusial yang harus dipertimbangkan dalam pemilihan bahan produksi, karena dapat menyebabkan kerugian yang signifikan. Proses korosi dapat merusak bahan produksi secara bertahap melalui reaksi kimia dengan lingkungan sekitarnya, seperti udara, air, atau bahan kimia lainnya. Kerugian yang ditimbulkan bisa berupa pengurangan ketahanan struktural, penurunan kinerja, bahkan kegagalan komponen yang dapat mengakibatkan biaya perbaikan atau penggantian yang tinggi. Oleh karena itu, pemilihan bahan produksi yang tahan terhadap korosi menjadi sangat penting dalam memastikan keandalan dan masa pakai produk dalam berbagai kondisi operasional dan lingkungan yang berbeda. Bahan yang sebagian besar tersusun dari besi dengan berbagai unsur tambahan, seperti karbon, adalah baja, suatu paduan. Kekuatan tarik baja ST 41 sebesar 41 kgf/mm², terdiri dari karbon 0,1517%, silikon 0,1994%, mangan 0,5631%, fosfor 0,0224%, serta sulfur 0,047%. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah guna mengetahui bagaimana pengaruh perubahan media pendingin seperti air laut, air PDAM, dan media korosi H2SO4 terhadap laju korosi Baja ST 41. Baja didinginkan menggunakan berbagai metode pendinginan berbasis air setelah mengalami perlakuan panas dalam temperatur 800°C, 850°C, dan 900°C selama 30 menit. Spesimen tersebut selanjutnya direndam dalam air laut, H2SO4, dan air PDAM selama total 21 hari (504 jam). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan laju korosi paling kecil ketika benda uji didinginkan dalam air laut dibandingkan dengan benda uji yang diberi paparan air PDAM serta H2SO4, memiliki nilai rata rata sebesar 0,0895 mm/tahun.
