Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between emotion regulation and public speaking anxiety. This study used quantitative research with 132 subjects. In this study, the participants involved were the entire population. The measuring instrument in this study used a 45-item public speaking anxiety scale and an emotion regulation scale consisting of 22 items. Participants who participated in this study were class XI students of SMAN 13 Surabaya. Based on the calculation of the analysis using product moment analysis, the result of Sig. (1-tailed) of 0.000, with a pearson correlation value of -0.568. It can be seen that the correlation coefficient value r = -0.568 with a significance level of p = 0.000 <0.01, it can be concluded that there is a negative and very significant relationship between emotional regulation and public speaking anxiety in high school students. Based on this, the higher the ability of emotional regulation, the lower the level of public speaking anxiety in high school students.
