Abstract
Dalam proses penyaluran energi listrik dari gardu induk ke konsumen sering kali terjadi gangguan, salah satunya adalah masalah gangguan tegangan lebih transien. Peralatan yang biasa digunakan untuk memproteksi gangguan akibat sambaran petir adalah lightning arrester. Penempatan lightning arrester dengan jarak tertentu dapat melindungi peralatan dari gangguan tegangan lebih gelombang surja hubung atau transien energi listrik. Jarak lightning arrester terhadap transformator daya 60 MVA yang terpasang adalah di gardu induk Surabaya Barat 150 kV sejauh 7,5 meter, sedangkan dari hasil perhitungan menyatakan bahwa jarak maksimal perlindungan optimum nya adalah 8,135 meter. Dengan begitu maka jarak lightning arrester terhadap transformator 60 MVA di Gardu Induk Surabaya Barat 150 kV masih berada dalam batasan jarak aman. Tingkat perlindungan lightning arrester terhadap transformator daya 60 MVA pada gardu induk Surabaya Barat 150 kV adalah 451,151 kV dengan factor perlindungan 30,5 % Dimana nilai ini lebih rendah dari Tingkat isolasi dasar yaitu 650 kV sehingga lightning arrester sudah memberikan perlindungan yang cukup baik.
