Abstract

Armed conflict in practice is a situation that involves violence in is implementation, either using military armed facilities or through physical violence. Situations in armed conflicts often have the potential to cause many casualties, especially for medical personnel serving in the conflict ervironment. The protection of medical personnel is still ignored by some countries involved or participating in armed conflicts, so that many medical personnel are targeted and victimized in these conflict situations. This certainly violates the provisions of International Humanitarian Law. This research presents two problem formulations, namely: 1. How does International Humanitarian Law deal with armed conflict, 2. How is the legal protection given to medical personnel serving in armed conflict areas. This type of research is normative research that uses a Legislative Approach, Conceptual Approach, and Case Approach and uses literature sources as secondary data in this research process. The results of the research show that medical personnel and medical facilities must receive protection and must not be used as objects of attack as regulated by International Humanitarian Law, in the 1949 Geneva Convention and the 1977 Additional Protocol. Any type of attack carried out by the parties to the dispute against medical personnel and other medical facilities is a violation of the rules of International Humanitarian Law.
