Abstract

Technological advances have changed people's lives significantly. Smartphone use has increased, various side effects resulting from excessive smartphone use have emerged. Apart from having a positive impact, smartphones can also have negative impacts, one of which is becoming anxious when away from the smartphone, one of which is smartphone addiction. This research was carried out with the aim of finding out the relationship between leisure boredom and smartphone addiction among students at the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya. This research uses quantitative correlational methods. The population in this study was 417 students who were active students at the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya. The sampling technique uses convenience sampling technique. The participants used in this research were 192 students. The data collection method uses a Likert scale. The measuring instruments used are the smartphone addiction scale and the leisure boredom scale. Hypothesis testing in this study used Spearman's rho correlation with SPSS (Statistical Product and Server Solution) for window version 26. The results of data analysis showed a value of rho = 0.767 with a significant p = 0.000 (p≤0.05) so there was a strong positive relationship between leisure boredom with smartphone addiction in students.
