Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze internal and external factors that influence the development of the Chinatown area in Surabaya as a tourist destination. The SWOT analysis method is used to outline the existing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The analysis results show that the Chinatown area has major strengths in its rich cultural and historical heritage and the availability of unique local cuisine and culture. However, there are weaknesses such as inadequate facilities and a monotonous culinary variety. Opportunities that can be leveraged include government support and urban tourism trends, while threats come from competition with modern tourist destinations and potential cultural changes. The proposed development strategies based on the SWOT matrix include utilizing strengths to capture opportunities and mitigating weaknesses and threats. It is hoped that with the right strategy implementation, the Chinatown area can develop into a sustainable tourist destination and provide economic and social benefits to the local community.
