Abstract

The nickname of the term Cewek gila or cegil is currently being discussed, especially in social media X or Twitter. the emergence of this term is used as slang to represent women with all their courage. The cegil discourse was first echoed by Nadin Amizah through her song entitled "Rayuan Perempuan Gila". The use of the term cegil seems to contain different connotations of meaning from positive to negative so that it becomes one of the materials of netizen debate from social media X or Twitter. This study seeks to examine what discourses exist regarding the use of the term crazy chick or cegil in social media X or Twitter by examining using discourse theory and feminist theory which is then analyzed using the critical discourse analysis method from the perspective of Norman Fairclough with the period June-December 2023. The results showed that there are at least 3 discourses related to the use of the term crazy girl or cegil. 1. Cegil = Trend of Women's Self-Acceptance, 2. Cegil = Trend that Drops Women's Self-Esteem, 3. Cegil = Labeling and Stereotyping.
