Abstract
Corrosion is a decrease in the nature of a metal due to chemical reactions between metal alloys or metals with their environment. Corrosion can result in damage to the steel material which causes the steel to get tired and easily damaged. ST-41 steel is a medium carbon steel with a chemical composition of 0.10% carbon: 0.6% manganese: 0.25% silicon. ST-41 steel means tensile strength or tensile stress of 40 kg / mm2 . Corrosion inhibitors are chemicals which, when added to an environment, can reduce the rate of environmental corrosion attack on a metal. In this study, material specimens of ST-41 steel material were treated with corrosive media or HCl acid, sulfuric acid and nitric acid media, so that the material was corrosive. In the corrosive condition of the specimen material get treatment on soybean extract medium inhibitors Testers use two sample materials, samples without treatment inhibitors and with inhibitor treatment. so that this test can determine the effect of inhibition on the corrosion rate. Tested by using a weight loss test or testing by calculating the initial weight of the specimen material by calculating the final weight of the specimen after corrosive. Then the specimen material is tested by hardness testing or hardness testing and microstructure testing. The results showed that the highest corrosion rate of ST-41 steel material was found in specimens without inhibitor treatment with sulfuric acid media, the effect of inhibitors on the corrosion rate was found in specimens with 2-day immersion inhibition variations on nitric acid media with the lowest corrosion rate. The highest hardness value was found in specimens with HCl acid media without inhibition immersion treatment and the duration of inhibition immersion influence on the increasing value of specimen hardness. In microstructure, specimens dominated by pearlite are found in specimens with HCl and nitric acid media without the treatment of time immersion inhibition, the reduced time immersion inhibition affects the reduction of ferrite on the specimen.
