Abstract

The density and increasing use of transportation annually have impacted the development of transportation infrastructure, especially on roads heavily traversed by the public. This requires attention to support quality, efficiency, and construction mobilization. In the context of traffic on Asphalt Concrete-Binder Course (AC-BC) pavement, AC-BC plays a significant role as the highest asphalt demand due to traffic loads. In this context, the common substitution of filler materials using waste glass powder and stone dust has been studied to obtain efficient results in both physical and mechanical characteristics using the Marshall method. This study aims to determine the feasibility of using waste glass powder as filler and to analyze the influence of waste glass powder as filler in meeting technical requirements, as well as comparing various optimum asphalt contents and variations of waste glass powder filler with stone dust through characteristic parameters such as Void in Mineral Aggregate (VMA), Void Filled with Bitumen (VFB), Void in Mix (VIM), stability, flow, and Marshall Quotient. The research results indicate that the use of waste glass powder as filler has met the requirements and can be used as a filler substitute for AC-BC pavements according to the General Specifications of Bina Marga (Revision 2) 2018. The influence of using waste glass powder as filler concludes that the optimal use of waste glass powder filler is at a variation level of 2.5% with a planned asphalt content of 6.0%. Additionally, the comparison of the Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) values with waste glass powder filler variations of 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5% are 5.85%, 5.80%, and 6.15%, respectively, while for stone dust filler variations of 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5%, they are 6.15%, 6.0%, and 6,10%, respectively. In conclusion, the use of waste glass powder as filler can improve the characteristics of AC-BC pavement mixtures and meet standards for use as a filler substitute in road construction.
