Abstract

PT XYZ is one famous cigarette producers in the East Java region. The company has 2 types of cigarettes namely Machine-made Kretek Cigarette (SKM) and Hand-Made Kretek Cigarette (SKT) produced by PT XYZ. DMM which is one of the Machine-made Kretek Cigarette Products (SKM) with menthol character. Currently the company is experiencing problems related to the weight of DMM cigarettes that exceed specifications which lead to waste of raw materials. This study aims to provide alternatives to DMM products to avoid waste or in other words improve the efficiency of DMM cigarette raw materials. There are two segments that are the focus, namely the shelf life of the filter and the efficiency of raw materials. On the shelf life trial filter (PT XYZ standard is 6 months), Researchers suggest that optimal use is before 1.5 months. Because after that time, the filter will experience physical and visual degradation. Then in the filter change experiment (raising to 333 mmHG which was previously 327 mmWg). From this study it was found that the efficiency of raw materials was 2.7% every week. And also obtained the efficiency of the initial setting of the machine around 20 minutes. The trial cigarettes have the same physical and visual characteristics (quality control) and organoleptic (panelist experiment) with the existing cigarettes so that the experiment can be said to be successful.
