Abstract

Competition in the environment of higher education, something must be observed and viewed from various point of views to maximize competitive advantages. Universities must be able to face the challenges of globalization and pass the graduates who can compete fiercely in the community. Kepulauan Riau province as one of the youngest provinces in Indonesia, in this year it has owned 2 state universities and 56 private universities. Just like universities in a border area, competition occurs not only among private universities and state universities in this area, but also with other universities in Indonesia even with universities in neighboring countries. This has an impact on the increasing difficulty of universities to maintain the number of registered students as well as the enrolment of new students in each year. Infact it cannot be denied that the continuity of private universities in Indonesia still depend on the number of registered students. This study aims to prove and analyze the influence of academic information systems, service quality and customer relationship marketing to image, trust and competitive advantages of private universities in Kepulauan Riau Province. The population in this study is students who are at least in the second year at private universities who have used the academic information system of students. This quantitative study uses samples of 381 respondents who is still active student status. This study uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) as a tool to analyze data. The result of the research shows that academic information system has significant influence on image, trust and competitive advantages of private universities in Kepulauan Riau province, the service quality has significant effect to the image, and competitive advantages but not significantly influence on the trust of private universities. The Customer relationship marketing significantly affects the image, trust and competitive advantages of private universities in Kepulauan Riau province. The image has a significant influence on the trust and competitive advantages of private universities in the province and trust significantly influence on the competitive advantages of private universities as well.
