Abstract

This thesis is a study of Social Conflict Reflected in Novel Linda Castillo Sworn to Silence. The purpose of this study is to explain the types and effects of social conflicts that occur in the novel Sworn to Silence. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The data source of this research is the Sworn to Silence novel published in 2009 with 363 pages. In collecting data, the writer use reading as an instrument to obtain data. The data analysis technique in this study is theory of social conflict by Lewis A Coser. The writer also uses extrinsic approach The writer also found that the main character who has social conflict is through three aspects in the novel. They are Social Conflicts Roles, Social Conflict involving Positions, and Social Conflict of Interest. The characters also find the effects of social conflict, which amount to three effects, there are Violence, Anger, and Murder. In this study, the writer concluded that social conflict could occur in society regardless of social class. The writer also concludes that the effects of social conflict are in the form of very cruel and brutal actions by antagonistic characters. The antagonist character does not regard the status or position of the individual in society to make the effect of social conflict in Linda Castillo's novel Sworn to Silence.
