Abstract
Earthquakes are phenomena that have the potential to cause damage to building infrastructure, especially high-rise buildings; therefore, earthquake-resistant structural design becomes a crucial aspect, particularly in considering structural configurations such as the presence of voids. Variations in the location and size of voids can affect stiffness, mass distribution, and the structural response to seismic loads. This study aims to analyze and compare the effect of variations in the location and size of voids on the performance of Special Moment Resisting Frame (SMRF) structures in a 10-story building. The analysis was carried out using ETABS software with five modeling variations, namely Building A, B, C, D, and E. The parameters reviewed include displacement, inter-story drift, structural period, base shear, and PDelta effects. In addition, structural performance evaluation was conducted based on ATC-40 and FEMA 356 methods to determine performance levels and ductility. The results indicate that all building models have the same performance level, namely Immediate Occupancy (IO), according to ATC-40 and FEMA 356. The values of displacement, inter-story drift, and P-Delta effects tend to increase from the lower floors to the middle floors and then decrease at the upper floors. Buildings B and C show higher displacement, period, and P-Delta values, while Buildings D and E exhibit smaller and more stable values. The base shear and internal force distribution also tend to be more uniform in Buildings D and E. The ductility level ranges from partial ductility to full ductility. Buildings D and E demonstrate the most optimal and effective structural performance, as they produce a more stable response, more uniform force distribution, and a better balance between stiffness and flexibility in resisting seismic loads
