Abstract
Pasrepan Traditional Market in Pasuruan Regency is one of the community trading centers that plays an important role in supporting the local economy. However, the existing condition of the market still faces several issues, such as limited facilities, disorganized spatial planning, and the lack of comfort for both traders and visitors. Therefore, a redesign of the market is proposed using the Neo-Vernacular architectural approach of the Tengger Tribe, which emphasizes the preservation of local culture while accommodating the functional needs of a modern market. The Neo-Vernacular approach is applied through the use of Tengger architectural elements, such as roof forms and spatial patterns, which are integrated with contemporary market requirements. The redesigned market is planned to accommodate more traders with organized trading zones, clear circulation areas, and supporting facilities including parking areas, management offices, a food court, and public open spaces. In addition, aspects of comfort and sustainability are considered through natural ventilation, optimized daylighting, and the use of durable and safe materials. The design outcome is expected to create a traditional market that functions not only as a center of community economic activity but also as a cultural identity of the Tengger people, which can attract tourists. Thus, the redesign of Pasrepan Market is expected to improve traders’ welfare, strengthen tourism appeal, and support economic and cultural sustainability in Pasuruan Regency.
