Abstract

Cyberbullying among Generation Z is a common phenomenon, influenced by numerous factors, including a lack of empathy and the influence of the environment and friends. This study highlights the important role of social media and the internet in the lives of adolescents, particularly in the context of increasingly widespread cyberbullying. The aim was to determine how peer group relationship dynamics, characterized by factors such as openness, cooperation, and trust, can influence cyberbullying behavior, while empathy functions as a factor that can reduce or exacerbate such behavior. This study used a quantitative approach with a sample of 382 respondents from Generation Z, and path analysis was used to test the hypotheses. The results showed that positive peer group relationships significantly reduced cyberbullying behavior, while poor peer group relationships increased the likelihood of cyberbullying. Furthermore, empathy was found to act as a mediator between peer group relationships and cyberbullying, indicating that individuals in supportive and empathetic peer groups tended to engage in cyberbullying less frequently. This study emphasizes the importance of building positive peer group relationships and developing empathy to reduce cyberbullying behavior among adolescents.
