Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-transcendence values and digital prosocial behavior among university students in Surabaya City, as well as to test the role of moral elevation as a mediator in this relationship. Digital prosocial behavior has become an increasingly important phenomenon along with the growing use of digital media in students' daily lives. However, the emergence of prosocial behavior in digital contexts cannot be separated from the influence of personal values and moral emotions possessed by individuals; therefore, it needs to be further examined through an empirical approach. The results of data analysis indicate that self-transcendence values have a positive and significant effect on digital prosocial behavior (B = 0.8851; t = 4.7711; p = 0.0000). The 95% confidence interval ranged from LLCI = 0.5203 to ULCI = 1.2498, which did not include zero; therefore, Hypothesis 1 was accepted. Furthermore, the mediation analysis showed that self-transcendence values have a positive and significant effect on moral elevation (B = 0.9386; t = 14.9030; p = 0.0000), and moral elevation has a positive and significant effect on digital prosocial behavior (B = 0.9389; t = 7.8599; p = 0.0000). In addition, the indirect effect test showed an effect value of 0.8812 with a 95% bootstrap confidence interval ranging from 0.6212 to 1.1649, which did not include zero. These findings indicate that moral elevation significantly mediates the relationship between self-transcendence values and digital prosocial behavior; thus, Hypothesis 2 was accepted. These findings suggest that self-transcendence values play an important role in encouraging students' prosocial behavior in digital contexts, both directly and indirectly through the experience of moral emotion in the form of moral elevation.
