Abstract

Dynamic academic challenges in education require students to be adaptable, persistent, and resilient when faced with pressure and difficulties in the learning process. One internal factor believed to play a role in this ability is optimism. This study aims to determine the relationship between optimism and academic resilience in high school (SMA) students. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The subjects in this study were 195 high school students selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were an academic resilience scale and an optimism scale that had passed validity and reliability tests. The data analysis technique used was product-moment correlation. The results showed a significant positive relationship between optimism and academic resilience, obtained by r = 0.668 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). This finding indicates that the higher the level of optimism, the higher the academic resilience. Strengthening optimism in students is important as an effort to increase academic resilience in facing academic demands during the learning process at school.
