Abstract

Since its implementation in 2020, the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program has brought both positive and negative impacts on university students. On the positive side, MBKM has enhanced students’ soft skills, cognitive abilities, social competence, scientific literacy, and problem solving skills. However, several challenges have also emerged, including difficulties in time management, limited communication with lecturers, and increased physical and mental fatigue. Academic stress levels have shown an upward trend both prior to and during the implementation of the program. Preliminary findings from 78 students revealed that the average academic stress level among non-participants was 42.4, compared to 51.1 among MBKM participants. This study aims to investigate the predictive roles of social support and grit on academic stress among MBKM students. A total of 224 participants from various regions across Indonesia were involved. The study employed a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS. Results indicate a significant relationship between social support, grit, and academic stress, with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05, F value = 48.472 > F table = 3.09, and R² = 0.305. These findings suggest that 30.5% of the variance in academic stress is explained by social support (4.69%) and grit (25.8%). The regression coefficients for social support and grit were -0.225 and -0.866, respectively, indicating that increases in these factors are associated with reduced academic stress. The study concludes that grit has a stronger influence on academic stress among MBKM students.
